Role: Truck and Trailer Mechanic (SGI Certified)

Location: Saskatoon, SK

Reporting to: Service Manager

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 40-hours per week

 

Our Client

Our client is a leading North American manufacturer specializing in tank trailers and tank trucks for the transportation of liquid and dry bulk products. Originally focused solely on manufacturing milk tanks, the company has expanded its capabilities over the years to offer a broad range of stainless steel and aluminum transportation solutions that serve a variety of industries across North America.

 

Today, our client manufactures more than 1,000 tanks annually through six facilities located across Canada and the United States, including locations in Quebec, Ontario, Ohio, and Massachusetts. Supported by several sister companies and divisions, the organization provides comprehensive services including manufacturing, sales, leasing, repairs, and parts support, serving nearly 5,000 customers throughout North America.

 

Recognized as one of the four largest tank trailer manufacturers in North America, our client is known for delivering flexible and cost-effective transportation solutions. In addition to new equipment manufacturing, the company also offers rental and leasing services, maintains an inventory of used units, and accepts trade-ins, allowing it to meet a wide range of customer needs with strong service and operational support.

 

The Opportunity

Every day brings a new challenge in this hands-on role. As a Truck and Trailer Mechanic, you’ll play a key role in SGI Vehicle Standards and Inspection while keeping essential equipment safe, compliant, and road ready. From diagnosing hydraulic issues to repairing critical PTO (Power Take-Off) components, this opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys problem solving, working with their hands, and taking pride in quality workmanship.

 

Rather than focusing on major engine, transmission, or differential rebuilds, this role is centered around the systems that keep specialized equipment performing at its best. It’s a position where technical skill, attention to detail, and practical mechanical experience come together in a fast-paced environment supporting essential transportation operations.

Key Responsibilities

As a Truck and Trailer Mechanic, you will work collaboratively and are responsible for:


1. Truck & Trailer Maintenance

  • Perform SGI Inspection, maintenance, service, and repairs on semi-trucks and trailers
  • Diagnose and repair PTO (Power Take-Off) and hydraulic systems
  • Complete minor truck repairs as required
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair ABS brake systems and suspensions
  • Operate diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical issues
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and efficiently

 

2. Inspection & Compliance & Documentation

  • Completing regulatory inspections and certifications for each vehicle
  • Conduct routine checks and procedures to ensure compliance with transit standards, safety regulations, and government vehicle inspection requirements
  • Identify and report defects, safety concerns, and potential problem areas
  • Make minor repair and replacement decisions aligned with preventative maintenance programs
  • Accurately document work performed, including repairs, inspections, and vehicle condition reports
  • Provide required data and reports to support maintenance tracking and operational planning

 

3. Shop Operations & Safety

  • Use tools, equipment, and materials safely, effectively, and economically.
  • Support safe work practices and contribute to a culture of safety within the shop.
  • Participate in and support on-the-job training for maintenance staff.

 

4. Operational Support

  • Perform vehicle changeovers in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assist with additional maintenance and operational tasks as required.
  • Collaborate with team members, other civic employees, and external partners to ensure smooth operations.

 

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

 

The Essentials (Hard Skills):

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Saskatchewan Journeyperson Certificate in:
  • Truck and Transport Mechanic or
  • Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic.
  • Proven experience with PTO and hydraulic systems
  • Experience repairing ABS brakes and suspension systems
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment
  • Must have basic hand tools
  • CSA-approved safety boots required
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Applicant must live in Saskatoon
  • Must be certified by SGI to preform Safety Inspection on Power Units and Semi-Trailers
